The Ondo State Police has rescued a 26-year-old woman who was kidnapped in Owo. They also arrested four suspects linked to the case. This followed a well-planned security operation that involved police officers, Amotekun corps, local hunters, and vigilantes.
The police reported that the victim, Miss Ogechi John, was taken on Monday, June 8, 2026, at Gozako Filling Station along the Emure, Akure Expressway. Unidentified men in an ash-coloured unregistered Toyota Camry carried out the abduction before escaping.
DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the police spokesperson, shared a statement on Tuesday. He said the police quickly launched a joint response after getting a distress call.
"The Command immediately activated a coordinated response alongside Amotekun, local hunters, and vigilantes," the statement explained.
The police secured key entry and exit points in Owo and nearby areas. Tactical teams searched through bushes and possible escape routes to find the victim and the suspects.
During the operation, they found the suspected getaway vehicle abandoned in a bush at Ojana, Owo. Based on information gathered during the search, police arrested three suspects who had a woman’s motorcycle believed to be connected to the case.
The suspects were named as Friday Shola, 27; Friday Monday, 21; Osho Joseph, 24; and Lawal Mariam. Initial investigations showed that one suspect mentioned a herbalist named Lawal Lucky from Idimepe Street, Owo. He is currently on the run.
The police confirmed that the victim was rescued after continued effort and intelligence-led operations. She is now receiving support.
"Most importantly, sustained operational pressure and intelligence-driven efforts by the police led to the successful rescue of the victim," the statement added.
The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Felix Ohagwu, praised the operatives for their quick response. He described the operation as a show of professionalism and resilience.
He assured the public that "criminal elements will continue to find no safe haven within Ondo State". He also encouraged residents to help security agencies by sharing useful information.
The police said they are still working to catch the fleeing suspects and others linked to the crime, as investigations are ongoing.
