Viral video
PREMIUM TIMES saw a video clip showing two armed vigilante members assaulting the siblings on a highway in Imo State.
The incident took place along Okigwe Road, which borders communities in Abia State.
In the video, one of the armed men was seen hitting the male student and then striking him with his rifle. He became angry when he noticed that the sister was recording the attack.
The operative then rushed towards the sister, appearing to get ready to shoot her. His partner had to hold him back several times.
“Shoot me. Come and take my phone,” the woman shouted at the vigilante.
“If you know what you’re doing is right, I’ll keep videoing you. You punched my mouth,” she added.
Arrest and detention
In the statement on Tuesday, Mr Okoye, a deputy superintendent of police, clarified that the operatives are members of the Imo State Vigilante Organisation, not police officers as some initially claimed.
“The individuals, identified as Ejiogu Nchekwube and Caleb Onyebuchi, have been arrested and are now at the Okigwe Divisional Police Headquarters. The investigation into the incident is ongoing,” he said.
