The Katsina State Police Command has stopped two bandit attacks in Kankia and Musawa local government areas. They rescued three kidnapped victims, recovered 12 stolen cows, and took down one suspected bandit.
This information came from a statement by the Command's Public Relations Officer DSP Abubakar Sadiq. He shared the details with reporters on Wednesday in Katsina.
The statement said, “The Katsina State Police Command has successfully repelled two separate bandit attacks in Kankia and Musawa LGAs, leading to the rescue of three kidnapped victims, the recovery of twelve rustled cows, and the neutralisation of one armed bandit.
“On October 6, 2026, at about 9:30 PM, a distress call came into Kankia Division. Suspected armed bandits had attacked Fakuwa village, kidnapping three people and stealing about twelve cows.
“After receiving the report, the DPO Kankia quickly mobilised and led a combined team of police operatives and local vigilantes to the area. They traced and confronted the bandits. A long gunfight broke out, forcing the bandits to abandon their mission and run into the forest, likely with gunshot wounds.
“As a result, all three kidnapped victims were rescued safely and all the stolen cows were recovered. The victims are now back with their families.”
In another incident, the police reported that suspected bandits blocked the Kiryoyi-Dangani Road in Musawa Local Government Area at around 1:30 AM on Wednesday.
The statement noted the DPO Musawa led a team from the Vigilance and Community Response Unit (VCRU) to the scene after receiving a distress call.
“Upon arrival, a gunfight broke out, which made the bandits flee the area,” Sadiq stated.
The police also mentioned that a search operation later led to the discovery of the body of one suspected bandit, with a machete found beside him.
The command stated that they are still working to find and arrest the bandits who escaped.
Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Umar Fage, praised the operatives for their “gallantry and professionalism.”
Fage also encouraged the public to keep supporting the police with timely and reliable information to help fight crime in the state.
The police advised residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
