Police Stop Vehicle with Indian Hemp, Arrest Three Men

Police in Osun State have arrested three suspects and stopped a vehicle believed to be carrying Indian hemp on the Moro-Ife Road.

The police spokesman, Abiodun Ojelabi, shared this news in a statement released in Osogbo on Friday.

Ojelabi explained that the vehicle was headed to Ogbomoso in Oyo State when it broke down on the Ife Road in Moro.

He said officers from the Violence Crime Response Unit were on a routine patrol when they found the broken-down vehicle and became suspicious.

The statement said, “On 30th August 2026, at about 1:30 PM, a team of police officers from the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) Team E was patrolling along the Moro-Ife Road when they spotted a silver Toyota Sienna Space Bus with registration number BGT 81 OLG. The vehicle had broken down and was left by the roadside.

The officers noticed that something was wrong and decided to investigate. Shortly after, Awo Omotayo, a 38-year-old man who claimed to be the driver, came to the scene with a red Nissan Cabstar vehicle, registration number EPE 299 YJ. He was with Abayomi Suleiman, 22 years old, and Oluwatayo Samuel.

They were there to tow the Sienna vehicle. Officers searched the Sienna Space Bus and found bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp inside. The suspects were arrested on the spot, and the three vehicles were taken to the police station for further investigation.

Ojelabi mentioned that during questioning, Omotayo claimed a man known as Baba Ibo, who works around Garage Olode in Osun State, hired him to transport the substance to Ogbomoso.

He added that Baba Ibo had the contact details of the person who was supposed to receive the substance in Ogbomoso.

In response to this incident, the Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Ibrahim Zungura, has ordered a thorough investigation to find out where the substance came from and who was supposed to get it.

The police also said they are working to catch Baba Ibo and anyone else linked to this case. They urged the public to stay alert and provide any useful information that could help catch the suspects and fight against drug trafficking in the state.
