The Kogi State Police have stopped a vehicle carrying 400 wraps of what is believed to be Indian hemp in the Magongo area of Ogori-Magongo Local Government Area.
ASP Salisu Oyiza Afusat, the police spokesperson, shared this news in a statement on Thursday. The interception took place during a routine stop-and-search by officers from the Akpafa Division.
The suspect, Abdulrahman, was driving a Honda with the registration number FST 700 DH. He was on his way from Edo State to Abuja when police stopped him.
"Preliminary investigations showed that the suspect was involved in selling and distributing Indian hemp. He admitted that the drugs were given to him by someone called ‘Biggy’ in Edo State, and he was supposed to deliver them to buyers in Abuja.
"The suspect said the drugs were worth N3.2 million," Afusat added.
The police spokesperson said that Abdulrahman and the seized drugs have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation.
She mentioned that efforts are ongoing to find 'Biggy' and others linked to the drugs, including the people who were supposed to buy them, to understand the whole supply chain.
CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, praised the officers for their alertness. He emphasized the command’s dedication to using intelligence-led policing, effective stop-and-search operations, and working with other agencies to fight against drug trafficking in the state.
The police also called on the public to keep giving useful information to help them identify and break up criminal networks.
