The Kebbi State Police Command has warned people to stop blocking the Kebbi, Sokoto Federal Highway. They said they will take legal action against anyone who disrupts traffic on this road.
This warning came after another blockade on Friday, October 9. This blockade stopped vehicles from moving for about three hours.
This was the second blockade in a short time. The first one happened on September 23, 2026. SP Bashir Usman, the Police Public Relations Officer, shared this information in a statement on Friday.
The police strongly condemned the blockade. They called it unlawful and said it violated the rights of other road users, including drivers and those needing urgent medical help.
"The blockade obstructed motorists, persons requiring emergency medical attention, and other members of the public from moving freely and conducting their lawful activities," the statement said.
The police warned that blocking traffic could lead to more crimes. They encouraged people with complaints to use legal ways to express their grievances.
They suggested that anyone with issues should talk to their elected representatives, traditional leaders, or the Police Community Relations Committee instead of blocking roads.
"The Command warns that any recurrence will attract appropriate legal action, with organisers and participants liable to investigation and prosecution in accordance with the law," the statement added.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar M. Hadejia, called on residents to respect each other's rights. He asked them to avoid actions that could disturb public peace.
Hadejia also urged parents and guardians to warn their children against joining illegal gatherings. He stressed the need to follow the law.
He promised that the police would work hard to keep the public safe. They will also ensure that people and goods can move freely across the state.
The police made it clear that they will not allow road blockades anymore.
"Henceforth, the Command will not tolerate any blockage of road under any guise," the statement said.
The police asked the public to obey the law and find proper ways to settle disputes without causing problems for commuters and others.
