Ange Postecoglou is back in management with Saudi Pro League champions Al Nassr. He has signed a two-year contract to lead a team that includes Cristiano Ronaldo.
Al Nassr announced his appointment on Friday. They called this a “new chapter” and confirmed that Postecoglou is the head coach for the next two seasons.
This is a big comeback for the 60-year-old Australian. His reputation took a hit after he left Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest.
Reuters reported that Postecoglou is looking to “revive his career” after facing challenges in the Premier League. His time at Nottingham Forest ended after eight matches without a win. He left Tottenham shortly after winning the Europa League.
Al Nassr’s statement was clear: “We wish him and his staff every success.”
This move sets up an interesting partnership. Postecoglou now leads a squad captained by Ronaldo, who played a key role in helping Al Nassr win the Saudi Pro League last season.
On X, the club announced, “It’s official: Mr. Ange Postecoglou is the new Head Coach of @AlNassrFC.
“He signed a contract for 2 seasons. Welcome, Gaffer!”
According to TNT Sports, this appointment links “Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr” with a coach known for his attacking style and strong personality. TNT described Postecoglou as one of the most recognizable managers available after leaving English football.
For Postecoglou, moving to Saudi Arabia is a chance to rebuild his career. He has already won league titles in Australia, Japan, and Scotland.
Reuters also mentioned that he is “known for winning trophies in his second season.” Al Nassr fans will hope this reputation follows him to Riyadh.
The challenge is clear: turn domestic champions into a lasting powerhouse. He must also handle the expectations of coaching one of the most followed clubs in the world and one of football's greatest players.
For a manager who has built his career on overcoming doubts, this stage is huge.
