Paris Saint-Germain beat Manchester City 4-2 in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday. City tried to fight back after Erling Haaland scored twice in the second half, but PSG held on for the win at the Etihad Stadium.
PSG took control early in the match. They built a three-goal lead in the first half with goals from Désiré Doué, Ousmane Dembélé, and Vitinha. The Guardian’s live report shared that City reacted after the break.
Haaland found the net two times in the second half. But Maghnes Akliouche quickly scored for PSG again, putting them back up by two goals. The visitors then survived a late penalty scare to secure all three points.
Doué opened the scoring in the 13th minute. He cut in from the right and fired a low shot past City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. PSG doubled their lead just two minutes later.
Dembélé headed in after Doué sent the ball back across the area following a cross from him. The third goal came from Vitinha in the 32nd minute, giving PSG a strong hold on the match before half-time.
City woke up after the break. Haaland got one back for them in the 53rd minute. The Norwegian striker netted his second in the 75th minute, putting City back in contention.
But Akliouche scored PSG’s fourth goal in the 62nd minute, bringing their lead back to three goals. Despite Haaland's efforts, City had a tough task ahead.
In the final moments, PSG got a penalty when Matheus Nunes clashed with Nuno Mendes in the box. Ferran Torres, a former Manchester City player, stepped up to take the shot in the 90th minute.
But Donnarumma saved Torres' penalty kick, which was aimed at the bottom-right corner. This kept PSG's lead intact and denied City a chance to close the gap.
The Guardian noted that the match ended with PSG winning 4-2, featuring six goals and a crucial penalty save. For City, Haaland's two goals were not enough to avoid defeat, while Donnarumma's save secured the win for PSG.
