Rangers May Sell Fernandez Soon

Super Eagles defender Emmanuel Fernandez might leave Scottish club Rangers soon. The club has been urged to think again about his future, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

Fernandez joined Rangers from Peterborough United in the summer of 2025. He quickly became an important player for the team in Scotland.

In his first season, 2025/26, he had a fantastic run. He won Rangers’ Player of the Season award and got a spot in the PFA Scotland Team of the Season. His solid play helped Rangers compete seriously for the Scottish Premiership title, though they did not win it.

This season has not been as good for him. He has struggled to find his form, which has drawn criticism from former Rangers players. Manager Derek McInnes has also asked him to be more consistent.

Last summer, many top European clubs showed interest in Fernandez. Rangers decided to keep him at that time. But Scottish journalist Johnny McFarlane thinks the club might need to rethink that choice before his market value drops.

“If Manny Fernandez was 22, then it’s a different market, I think,” McFarlane said, according to Ibrox News. “At 25, which I think he turns in mid-November, in a month, that is going to be something that means Rangers have to accelerate a transfer move.”

Fernandez is still the most valuable player in the Scottish Premiership. This means Rangers could ask for a good fee if they choose to sell him.

McFarlane also mentioned that timing will be key for any possible sale. He warned Rangers not to keep Fernandez too long if his transfer value starts to go down.

“All these factors play into when the right time is to move a player on; once a player gets to 27/28, it starts to become an issue.”

Fernandez is currently with the Super Eagles for an international friendly against Russia on Tuesday. He did not play in Nigeria’s last two qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations last month.

Now, he hopes to start against Russia and show coach Eric Chelle what he can do. He wants to prove he deserves a bigger role in the national team.
