Chelsea captain Reece James has successfully had knee surgery, the club announced on Friday.
The England player has missed Chelsea’s last two league matches. They lost 3-0 to Brentford and then won 5-1 against Bournemouth.
“The 26-year-old was not in the squad for Saturday’s 5-1 win over Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge. This was while doctors checked on the injury he got during training,” the club said in a statement.
“Those checks showed that surgery was the best option.”
“Reece has started his recovery journey and will get support from the club’s medical team at Cobham during this time.”
Chelsea currently sits sixth in the Premier League. They will face Everton on Saturday.
