Getafe midfielder Christantus Uche has successfully had knee surgery after a serious injury during a pre-season friendly against Monaco this month, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

Uche posted a photo of himself on Wednesday after the surgery as he starts his recovery.

The 23-year-old got injured on August 6 from a tackle by Monaco defender Christian Mawissa during the friendly match.

Medical scans later showed that Uche had multiple ligament and meniscus tears in his right knee. The injury was so severe that he needed surgery and will miss the rest of the season.

Uche confirmed that the operation went well. He thanked the medical team, his representatives, Getafe, and everyone who supported him during this time.

“Today (Wednesday) I took a very important step in this journey. The surgery went as planned, and now a new chapter begins: recovery.

“First of all, I want to thank Dr Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet and his entire team for their great work and for taking care of me throughout the whole process.

“I would also like to thank my agent for being by my side, for his support, and for accompanying me every step of the way. And thank you to Getafe, the coaching staff, my teammates, and everyone at the club for being with me from day one.

“Thank you to everyone who has sent me messages, prayed for me, and given me strength. I trust in God and I know that He will give me the strength to overcome this process. Now it’s time to be patient, work hard, and trust the journey. One day closer to coming back. God is great.”

Last season, Uche was on loan at Crystal Palace. He found it hard to get regular playing time, making 22 appearances and playing a total of 477 minutes.

Palace had the choice to make his move permanent but decided not to trigger that option. This led to his return to Getafe amid talks about his future.

Now, with this knee injury, Uche will miss the entire season as he begins a long rehabilitation process.
