Paris Saint-Germain winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will have surgery soon after he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee. The club confirmed this news on Wednesday.
PSG shared the injury update on their official X account. This came after Kvaratskhelia had to leave Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League match against FC Barcelona.
"Kvaratskhelia sustained the injury before the hour mark while tracking back to challenge a Barcelona player. He was unable to put weight on his right leg and had to be helped off the pitch by medical staff," the post said.
The diagnosis confirmed worries about how serious the knee injury was. This is a setback for Kvaratskhelia, who has been performing well for the French champions.
PSG also reported injuries to forward Ousmane Dembélé and Brazilian defender Marquinhos.
Dembélé hurt his left thigh during the first half, while Marquinhos injured his right thigh after the break.
The club’s medical update noted that both players will stay under medical care in the coming weeks as they recover.
The three injuries create a selection problem for manager Luis Enrique as PSG prepares for upcoming domestic and European matches.
Kvaratskhelia’s recovery time will depend on his surgery and the rehab that follows. Meanwhile, Dembélé and Marquinhos will be closely watched by the club’s medical team.
