Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is feeling down after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee. The Paris Saint-Germain winger said he was not ready for this injury.

This is the first time the Georgian international has spoken since he got hurt during PSG’s UEFA Champions League match against FC Barcelona. In a post by Fabrizio Romano on his X account on Wednesday, Kvaratskhelia said, “Why me? I was not ready for this.” He knows the injury will keep him out for several months.

Kvaratskhelia mentioned that he always hoped to finish games without injuries. He admitted that his prayers did not stop this one. “Many people have asked me questions about this setback; many have said that if all the footballers in the world prayed, the match would end in a draw. That might be true, but before every match I play, I ask God to leave the field unscathed, but in vain,” he said.

He finds it hard to accept this injury, especially since he prepared well for the game against Barcelona. “It hasn’t been long, but it’s still in my head, why me, actually? I’ve never missed anything, probably prepared for this game the best I’ve ever prepared. I thought I was prepared for everything, but no,” he said.

Despite feeling down, the 25-year-old is ready to go through the tough months of rehabilitation. He described the time ahead as one filled with hard work, pain, and tears. “I realise that God has chosen me, and if I was protecting the players on another field, I’m ready to go through these months of work, pain, and tears,” he added.

Kvaratskhelia also made a promise to return stronger. He thanked fans for their support during this tough time. “I know I have to come back stronger for my people who always support me. I won’t let you down; I promise I won’t waste a second. Thank you all for your support, see you soon,” Kvaratskhelia said.

PSG has announced that he will have surgery soon due to the ACL injury.
