Cristiano Ronaldo has been temporarily suspended by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF). This suspension comes as they investigate the events around his exit from the national team’s training camp in September.

The federation’s Disciplinary Council confirmed this decision in a statement shared by Portuguese public broadcaster RTP on Saturday, October 10, 2026.

In the statement, the council mentioned that they decided on October 9 to start disciplinary action against Ronaldo based on information they received on October 7.

“foi determinada a suspensão preventiva não automática do jogador” (a non-automatic provisional suspension of the player was imposed), the statement said, as quoted by RTP.

The case was sent to the FPF’s Disciplinary Investigation Commission on October 10, and it was labeled as urgent. The federation added that the details of the proceedings would stay private until the investigation wraps up.

Portuguese sports broadcaster SPORT TV also reported the suspension on October 10, sharing the disciplinary statement with the public.

Ronaldo left Portugal’s training camp in Copenhagen on September 30. This happened after he had a disagreement with head coach Jorge Jesus about his role in the team.

On October 6, beIN SPORTS reported that the Portugal captain had apologized for leaving the camp. He indicated that he would accept any punishment that came his way.

“I should not have done it. The responsibility is exclusively mine,” Ronaldo said in a statement cited by beIN SPORTS, as he apologized to his teammates.

The forward also ruled out quitting international football, according to beIN SPORTS. He showed his willingness to come back to the national team after serving any suspension.

RTP reported that Ronaldo had also shown readiness to return to Portugal’s squad.

The federation’s decision is temporary. The disciplinary process is still ongoing, and the statement does not say what final punishment Ronaldo might face.
