The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has saved 15 children who were reportedly trafficked and sold for N2 million each by a suspected human trafficker in Nasarawa State.

The NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Babawale Afolabi, shared this news at a briefing at the corps’ headquarters in Abuja on Friday.

Afolabi mentioned that the suspect pretended to be an official from the National Council of Child Rights Advocate. He tricked the parents into giving their children to him.

“Pretending to run a non-governmental organization and an orphanage called the Back to School Project, he convinced willing, less privileged parents to let go of their children with promises of free education,” Afolabi explained.

The rescue operation was led by the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad, under Commander Dandaura Appollos.

Afolabi noted that 15 out of the 16 trafficked children from Kama Madaki and Gudindi Mada communities in Kokona Local Government Area were rescued from the alleged buyers.

“Using advanced field tracking, technical intelligence, and tactical operations across states, our operatives tracked down the buyers from different parts of the country,” he said.

He pointed out that three of the rescued children were found in Anambra, Imo, and Enugu states, while the remaining 12 were rescued during a coordinated effort along eastern transit routes.

Three suspected buyers, including one man and two women, have been arrested in connection with this case.

Afolabi stated that the NSCDC has a strict policy against crime and human trafficking.

He added that those found guilty will face prosecution once the investigation by the corps is finished.
