Senate Deputy President fires aide for disrespectful posts about Kano governor

The Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, has fired one of his aides, Umar Alhassan. This decision comes after Alhassan made social media posts that were seen as anti-party and disrespectful to the Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf.

This news was shared in an official statement from Jibrin’s media aide, Shitu Madaki.

Madaki explained that the action followed a number of online comments and posts made by Alhassan, who is popularly known as "King Indara." These included statements saying that Governor Yusuf "must go."

The statement said that Alhassan's posts were seen as "disrespectful and lacking in decorum" toward the governor.

Additionally, his behavior was viewed as harmful to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and as a violation of Jibrin's order for party unity.

"Such conduct goes against the values and upbringing of the Deputy President of the Senate, along with the principles of the APC. This is especially true regarding his directive to support and uphold the party from the national level to the grassroots," the statement noted.

"As a result, Mr Alhassan's position as Senior Legislative Assistant (SLA) in the Office of the Deputy President of the Senate is terminated effective September 18, 2026," the announcement said.

In his response, Alhassan expressed gratitude to Jibrin for the chance to work as his aide. He said, "You believed in me and trusted me. This is a matter of great pride for me, and this opportunity you provided has opened many opportunities for me. I will never forget this kindness. I pray that Allah rewards you with goodness, protects you, and preserves your position."

He added, "I hereby inform the general public that I have accepted my ‘relief’ from duty as an aide to Senator Barau I. Jibrin (Maliya), and I have embraced it wholeheartedly with complete faith and acceptance."

Alhassan concluded, "This is not the end of the journey, politics is a long-distance road. I will continue to contribute my quota toward the progress of the youth and the community at large." This was shared in a Hausa statement on his Facebook page.
