Senate to hold two-day security meeting in Abuja

The Senate has said it will hold a National Security Summit to strengthen Nigeria’s security system from 12 to 13 October.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio shared the dates during a session on Tuesday in Abuja.

Mr Akpabio mentioned that the summit, called “Strengthening Nigeria’s National Security Architecture: Innovation, Collaboration and Resilience in a Changing World,” will start at 9 a.m. each day.

He noted that the event will take place at the International Conference Centre, Abuja. It aims to bring stakeholders together to discuss ways to improve Nigeria's security system.

Mr Akpabio encouraged senators to join in talks on how to help Nigerians feel safe and return to their farms without fear.

He also urged security agencies to take part in the summit and share ideas on how to boost national security.

The Senate President called the summit long overdue. He hopes the Senate will help tackle the country’s security issues.

He said the summit would gather key players to discuss a stronger security system, teamwork among agencies, and how to deal with new threats.

After the announcement, the Senate adjourned the session till October 13.
