Senator Changes Name After Becoming Christian, Aide

The Media Adviser to the All Progressives Congress candidate for governor in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Adeola, has shared that the candidate changed his name from Sulaimon Ogunleye to Solomon Adeola after he became Christian.

Adeola’s aide, Kayode Odunaro, spoke up while addressing questions about his principal’s identity and name as the 2027 governorship election approaches.

In a chat with our reporter on Saturday, Odunaro said there is nothing strange about Adeola changing his name. He insisted that the senator made this change long before he entered politics.

He mentioned that Adeola was born into a Muslim family and picked the name Solomon after he converted to Christianity.

“Many people at some point in life have had cause to change their names. Even the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Atiku Abubakar, once changed his name. His original name wasn’t Atiku Abubakar.

“So, that is not an issue, and the senator has changed his name since he was at The Guardian. He was Sulaimon Ogunleye, but changing his religion from Islam to Christianity made him change his name.

“Solomon is the biblical name for Sulaimon. His father’s name is Ogunleye and Adeola. He only chose Adeola as his surname,” Odunaro stated.

A former chairman of Ijebu East Local Government, Wale Adedayo, recently claimed that Adeola was originally known as Sulaimon Ogunleye and that he hails from Ekiti State. Adeola later challenged Adedayo and others who made similar statements to provide proof or face legal action.

Odunaro, however, kept to his point that the name change was not proof of any wrongdoing. He argued that people might change their names for personal, religious, or other reasons.
