Seventeen players will go into the 2026 FIFA World Cup quarter-finals with one yellow card away from missing the semi-finals. If any of them get another yellow card in the quarter-finals, they will be suspended if their team moves on.
Seventeen players received yellow cards in the Round of 16 that finished on Tuesday.
Morocco has four players in danger: Issa Diop, Achraf Hakimi, Redouane Halhal, and Bilal El Khannouss.
England also has four players at risk of suspension, Jude Bellingham, Nico O’Reilly, Declan Rice, and Marc Guehi.
Jarell Quansah got a red card in the Lions’ 3-2 win over co-host Mexico. That means he will miss the quarter-final against Norway on Saturday.
From France, Manu Kone and Michael Olise are one yellow card away from missing the semi-finals.
Switzerland’s Granit Xhaka, Denis Zakaria, and Miro Muheim are in the same boat. Spain’s Ferran Torres, Norway’s Antonio Nusa, Belgium’s Brandon Mechele, and Argentina’s Gonzalo Montiel also make the list.
All 17 players must avoid getting another yellow card in the quarter-finals to stay eligible for a potential semi-final.
