Vice President Kashim Shettima on Sunday officially welcomed Mustapha Inuwa back into the All Progressives Congress (APC). Inuwa is the former Secretary to the Katsina State Government and was once the leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state.
Inuwa, who is a notable figure in Katsina politics and a former APC member, had recently left the ADC. He asked his supporters to return to the ruling party.
His return happens as political changes unfold ahead of the 2027 general elections. It is likely to strengthen the APC's presence in Katsina.
Inuwa was a key player in the ADC but later had issues with the party's leadership over how they chose candidates for the upcoming elections in 2027.
In August, Inuwa announced his choice to return to the APC, saying it was for the good of his supporters and their political goals. He stated, "The decision was taken in the interest of advancing our political aspirations and protecting the interests of our supporters."
He also instructed his supporters who followed him to the ADC to leave that party and come back to the APC. Inuwa was the first APC chairman in Katsina State and later worked as Secretary to the State Government under former Governor Aminu Masari.
This shift comes after a meeting in August in Abuja, where Shettima, Radda, and Inuwa discussed political matters in Katsina.
During the welcome event in Katsina, Shettima expressed confidence that the APC would win in the state during the 2027 elections. He said, "We have seen that the state is rooted in the ruling APC, having seen things for myself. I am optimistic that we will win in all the seats in the state and the country as a whole."
Shettima praised Radda for his work in bringing important political figures back to the APC. He said, "Radda has been doing well in bringing these political actors, such as Dr Mustapha Inuwa and a host of others, to the fold. Indeed, APC is a household name in Katsina State."
Inuwa's return is set to strengthen the APC's political setup in Katsina as parties gear up for the 2027 elections.
