Troops from Operation Fansan Yamma and the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army have successfully stopped attacks by suspected Lakurawa terrorists and bandits in Sokoto State. They rescued two farmers who were kidnapped and prevented what security sources said could have been serious attacks.

A senior security source shared with our reporter in Sokoto on Sunday that soldiers from Operation Fansan Yamma disrupted an attack by suspected Lakurawa terrorists on the Magonho community in the Tangaza Local Government Area on June 4.

The source, who asked to remain anonymous because he was not allowed to speak publicly about the operation, said one civilian was shot during the gunfight.

He added that the troops quickly responded to calls for help from residents, forcing the attackers to run away before they could do major damage.

"The vigilance and quick response of our troops helped save lives and protect property. Even though one civilian was injured, the situation could have been much worse without the fast action of security personnel," the source said.

In a different incident on the same day, troops of the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army stopped a bandit attack on a Forward Operating Base in Tidibale village, located in the Isa Local Government Area.

During this operation, two farmers who had been taken by the criminals were rescued unharmed. They were taken to the General Hospital in Isa for medical care and assessment.

The source mentioned that the troops fought fiercely against the attackers, making them abandon their mission and flee the scene.

"The quick response, skill, and bravery shown by our military personnel prevented what could have been a tragic event. Their actions showed again the Nigerian Army's commitment to protecting the lives and property of citizens," he said.

The security source also revealed that the attackers suffered major losses during these encounters, though he did not give specific details. He noted that operations are still ongoing.

"The terrorists faced a heavy defeat, and our troops are keeping up the pressure on them. Operations are continuing to make sure these criminals do not regroup or pose more threats to communities," he added.

He urged residents to keep supporting security agencies with reliable information. He stressed that community cooperation is key to maintaining the recent successes against terrorism and banditry in the area.

"Security is a shared responsibility. We ask everyone to stay alert and provide timely information to security agencies. Such cooperation is important for achieving lasting peace and security in our communities," the source said.

He assured residents that security forces have stepped up proactive measures in vulnerable communities to protect lives and property and to stop future attacks.
