Troops from the Joint Task Force South East, known as Operation UDO KA, have destroyed a terrorist hideout in Anambra State. They also recovered a large number of weapons and ammunition during an operation aimed at breaking down criminal networks in the area.

On Friday, the Nigerian Army shared details on their X handle. The operation was carried out by soldiers from the 185 Battalion along with the Anambra Vigilante Group. This came after three people were kidnapped near the Osakwa General Area of Ihiala Local Government Area.

The troops successfully rescued the victims during the operation.

On October 1, 2026, the soldiers carried out a quick operation and arrested a suspected kidnapper named Sunday Obi. Information gained from questioning him led security forces to a camp used by a criminal group at Abator in Ogbaru Local Government Area, near the Isieke waterside.

Following this intelligence, the troops used canoes to cross the waterways and reach the hideout. According to the Nigerian Army, the soldiers engaged with the terrorists, who ended up fleeing with injuries from gunshots.

The operation resulted in the recovery of two AK-47 rifles with magazines, three pump-action guns, and three locally made Dane guns. Troops also found 62 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition and 149 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, along with two cartridges and materials thought to be for making improvised explosive devices.

The soldiers also recovered a solar generator, a power bank, a car battery, two motorcycle batteries, two solar panels, and two mobile phones.

The Army stated that these recovered items shed light on the support system for kidnapping and other criminal activities in the region. They added that follow-up operations are ongoing to catch the suspects who escaped, along with their partners and supply chains.

The Nigerian Army confirmed that Operation UDO KA will keep working with other security agencies and local groups to disrupt terrorist and criminal networks. Their goal is to protect communities throughout the South East.
