Spotify announced on Tuesday that they will introduce a new badge called the “AI Persona” in mid-September. This badge will help listeners know when the music is created by AI and not a real person.

The company said, “Listeners have been clear in telling us that they don’t like seeing an artist profile that seems human, only to find out that the persona is AI-generated.” This statement shows that Spotify is paying attention to what its users want.

This step by Spotify aims to be more open about how music is created on its platform. There is a rising worry in the music world about AI taking over music streaming with too much AI-generated content.

Back in April, Spotify introduced its “Verified by Spotify” badge. This badge tells users that a profile has been checked and meets the company’s standards for authenticity.

Spotify added, “Alongside artist profiles that self-disclose as AI Personas, we will also start applying badges to relevant profiles.” This means that users will see clear labels on profiles that are AI-generated.

Importantly, Spotify will not include AI Personas in its editorial or personalized recommendations. This will only happen if a user chooses to follow an AI Persona.
