The Super Eagles landed in Bissau on Sunday. They are set for Tuesday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea-Bissau. This follows their 2-1 comeback win over Madagascar in Uyo, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Nigeria went behind after Ehsan Kari scored in the 16th minute. But debutants George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor scored in each half to turn the game around. This win gave Eric Chelle’s team all three points.
Despite Nigeria’s difficulties with Madagascar’s strong defense, goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali made a key save in the second half. He denied Rayan Raveloson, keeping Nigeria in the match until Usor got the winner.
On Sunday, the Super Eagles had a closed training session at 10 am. They left for the airport at 2 pm for their 3 pm flight to Bissau.
Guinea-Bissau also won their first match, beating co-hosts Tanzania 2-0. This victory placed them at the top of Group L on goal difference.
Both teams are looking for their second win to boost their chances in the qualifying race. Tanzania and Madagascar will also play against each other on Tuesday.
Only one team will get automatic qualification from this group. This is because Tanzania is one of the tournament's co-hosts.
Nigeria and Guinea-Bissau have faced each other in the qualifiers for the 2023 AFCON. Both teams won their away matches. The Djurtus won 1-0 in Abuja, and the Eagles replied with a 1-0 win in Bissau.
Chelle will lead a training session in Bissau on Monday. This will prepare his players for Tuesday’s match at the Estádio 24 de Setembro, which starts at 5 pm Nigerian time.
