The Nigeria Football Federation has announced the Super Eagles' first matches for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. These games will take place this month.
Nigeria will kick off their qualifying matches against Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. The match is set for Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
After that, they will head to Morocco to take on Guinea-Bissau in their second qualifying game on Sunday, September 27.
This information was shared in a fixture graphic posted on the official Super Eagles X account on Tuesday.
These matches are part of the first two matchdays of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers. Nigeria is in Group L, alongside Madagascar, Tanzania, and Guinea-Bissau.
The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations is set to take place in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania from June 19 to July 17, 2027.
The Super Eagles are looking to qualify for the tournament after they missed out on the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The qualifiers will be played on a home-and-away basis. Each team in the group will have six matches.
According to the qualifying rules, the top two teams in each group will make it to the AFCON finals. This does not apply to Groups D, H, and L, where the host countries are included.
Tanzania is one of the three co-hosts and is in Nigeria’s Group L. They have automatic qualification as a host nation.
As a result, only the highest-ranked team in Group L, apart from Tanzania, will qualify for the finals.
