Nigeria is back in 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying action on Tuesday. They will face Guinea-Bissau, hoping to build on their 2-1 comeback win over Madagascar and make it two wins in a row.

His speed and ability to attack defenders gave Nigeria a fresh approach. Usor has strong credentials, helping LASK win both the Austrian league and cup last season.
The big question is whether Chelle will start him again. If he does, Guinea-Bissau will have to deal with a winger who can change the game quickly.
Calvin Bassey, The defensive leader
Bassey was one of Nigeria’s solid players against Madagascar. He brought strength and calmness alongside Semi Ajayi.
Though he was part of the defensive mistake that allowed Madagascar to score, he bounced back and helped Nigeria handle the visitors’ attacks.
The match against Guinea-Bissau could be tougher. Players like Beto, Mama Baldé, and Franculino Djú bring speed and power, so Bassey must be alert and keep Nigeria’s defense organized.
His experience in the Premier League and Europe makes him one of the key players Chelle will count on for this away match.
Stanley Nwabali, Nigeria’s safety net
Nwabali returned to the Super Eagles goal against Madagascar for the first time since the 2025 AFCON third-place match. He looked confident and had a crucial moment when he stopped Rayan Raveloson in a one-on-one just after half-time.
If that chance had gone in, Madagascar could have regained their lead. That’s why Nwabali could be important again in Bissau.
Nigeria may face tough moments away, and the Chippa United goalkeeper needs to stay sharp and make key saves when Guinea-Bissau gets chances.
With Maduka Okoye also competing for the spot, another strong showing could secure Nwabali’s place as Chelle’s number one.
Moses Simon, The centurion still has plenty to offer
Simon celebrated his 100th Super Eagles appearance against Madagascar. This milestone shows how much experience he brings to Chelle’s attack.
The winger is still a threat because of his speed and ability to beat defenders. He knows how to deliver in tough moments.
Simon came off the bench against Madagascar, injecting fresh energy when Akor Adams and Taiwo Awoniyi struggled to make an impact.
This could lead Chelle to consider a different attack against Guinea-Bissau, possibly with a three-man front, featuring Simon on the flank with Ilenikhena.
His skill in getting past defenders and crossing into the box could help Ilenikhena’s movement in the middle.
At 100 caps, Simon has made his mark in Super Eagles history. In Bissau, he will want to show he can still make a difference for Nigeria.
Another test for Chelle’s Super Eagles
Madagascar gave Nigeria three points, but Guinea-Bissau will test if Chelle’s team can play a better game.
Nigeria must be sharper with the ball, stronger defensively, and more effective in front of goal.
The good news is that Chelle has more options now. Ilenikhena and Usor have made a name for themselves, while Bassey and Nwabali offer stability. Simon adds experience and another way to attack.
