Over 3,000 runners to compete in Abeokuta 10km race

More than 3,000 runners have signed up for the 2026 Abeokuta 10km Race. This exciting road race is set for Saturday, October 3, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The high number of runners has raised excitement for the fifth edition of the race, put together by Nilayo Sports Management Limited.

The race will start at Macjob Grammar School, Onikolobo at 7 am. It will end at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena, Kuto. Participants will run through parts of Abeokuta, giving spectators a chance to see the city’s unique charm.

A special part of this year’s race is that only Nigerian athletes can compete. This means all runners must be from Nigeria.

The organisers believe the race will also help the local economy. It will create chances for small businesses and traders along the race route.

“Food vendors, transport operators, artisans, hospitality providers and other small businesses are expected to benefit from the increased movement of people that the event will bring to different parts of the city,” the organisers said in a statement on Monday.

“For residents and visitors, the event is expected to be more than a road race, as Abeokuta prepares to combine athletics, culture, tourism and local economic activity on October 3.

“Top Sports administrators, active and retired sportsmen and women, enthusiasts and people from different walks of life are expected to grace the occasion.”
