Super Falcons Lose Two Players for Egypt Match

Super Falcons will not have two of their players for the last Group C match against Egypt in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. This is because the Confederation of African Football suspended them.

The players affected are defenders Oluwatosin Demehin and midfielder Jennifer Echegini.

Both players will miss this important match due to disciplinary actions from Nigeria’s 1-0 win over Zambia on Saturday.

Demehin got a straight red card in the 40th minute. She fouled Zambia captain Barbra Banda as the striker was running towards goal.

Echegini also received a yellow card, which was her second of the tournament. This means she automatically gets a one-match suspension according to CAF rules.

The suspensions come as Nigeria aims for a win against Egypt to improve their chance of reaching the quarter-finals.

The Super Falcons bounced back in their title defense with a tough win over Zambia. They had lost 3-2 to Malawi in their first Group C match.

Asisat Oshoala scored the only goal in the eighth minute. After Demehin was sent off, Nigeria had to play with 10 players.

Even though Zambia had more players for most of the match, the nine-time African champions held on to win and take all three points.

Nigeria and Zambia now both have three points after two matches. Malawi has six points, and Egypt has not earned any points yet. This leaves the qualification for the knockout stage to be settled in the final Group C matches.
