Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a suspect named Samson Onilewaji. He was reportedly found with a suspected human hand.
A statement from the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, was shared on the command’s official X account on Friday. Onilewaji was caught during a routine stop-and-search along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
The police stopped an unregistered commercial shuttle bus with six people inside. They arrested Onilewaji, who also had firearms and other stolen items.
The statement said, “During a search of the vehicle and its occupants, the suspect, identified as Samson Onilewaji, male, aged 21 years, was found in possession of a suspected human right hand, two locally made pistols, one live cartridge, two axes, one POS terminal machine, and five ATM cards.”
Onilewaji admitted to robbing three people of their belongings, including the recovered POS terminal machine and ATM cards. The police are working to identify and contact the victims to return their items.
The investigation is ongoing to find out who owns the suspected human hand and how Onilewaji came to have it. The police are also trying to catch other criminals linked to Onilewaji. He will be taken to court once the investigation is complete.
The state Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, urged the public to stay alert. He asked people to provide the police with timely and reliable information to help prevent crime and improve public safety.
