Suspects ask to take selfie with police spokesman after arrest for drugs and guns

A video has gone viral showing suspected drug dealers asking to take a photo with the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, right after their interview.

The suspects were caught with cocaine and two pistols. They claimed they used the guns to protect their drug business.

Edafe shared details about the arrest in a Facebook post on Tuesday. He said the suspects were stopped during a stop-and-search operation by officers from the command’s Safer Highways patrol team.

“These two suspects were intercepted during stop and search by operatives attached to Safer Highways patrol of the command,” he wrote.

He explained that a search on the suspects revealed two Beretta pistols hidden on their bodies. They also had a substance believed to be cocaine.

Edafe pointed to the arrest as proof that the police should keep carrying out stop-and-search operations.

In a follow-up post, Edafe described how the suspects seemed to get “carried away” when they realized he wanted to interview them.

“I have not seen this kind of people before. Caught with cocaine and two pistols, which they claim they use for the drug business. But they got carried away when they saw that I wanted to interview them. They even asked for a picture after the interview,” Edafe wrote.

He said he agreed to take the photo but told them to come back for it after they finished their prison term.

The video showed one suspect recognizing the PPRO immediately.

“You say you know me before,” Edafe asked in the video.

“Edafe Bright,” the suspect answered.

“Edafe Bright na him be my name,” the PPRO replied.

“Ahh, who no know you,” the suspect said, adding that Edafe was well known as the PRO.

When asked what would happen to them, the suspect replied, “Na the same thing,” and Edafe said, “E don reach your turn na.”
