Taraba starts tetanus-diphtheria vaccination for women

The Taraba State Primary Health Care Development Agency has started a tetanus-diphtheria vaccination campaign. This campaign is for women aged 15 to 49 years.

Tukura Nyigwa, an official from the agency, shared this news on Saturday. He spoke at a meeting in Jalingo to prepare for the vaccination exercise. The vaccination will run from September 28 to October 2.

The campaign has support from the United Nations Children’s Fund, also known as UNICEF.

"This vaccination will target females aged 15 to 49 years. I urge eligible women to take advantage of the opportunity to receive the vaccine," Mr Nyigwa said.

He highlighted the need for more awareness in the community. This will help improve understanding and acceptance of the vaccination, especially among eligible women.

He noted that women and children are at higher risk for tetanus. This makes awareness and access to vaccination services very important.

The meeting brought together health officials, development partners, traditional and religious leaders, and communication teams. Other stakeholders were also present.

They talked about ways to work together better. Their goal is to clear up misunderstandings and improve access to vaccination services in the communities of the state.

Christiana Habila, the State Health Educator, said the meeting was held to prepare everyone for the campaign.

Ms Habila stressed the need for clear communication and strong community engagement. This will help ensure that eligible women get the right information and can access the vaccination services.

She encouraged everyone involved to support the campaign. They should mobilise their communities and encourage eligible women to participate.
