The Borno State Contributory Health Care Management Agency (BOSCHMA) has given out over N400 million to 171 primary healthcare centres (PHCs) and nine secondary health facilities. These funds are for free treatment for vulnerable people across the state.

Saleh Abba, the Executive Secretary of BOSCHMA, shared this information in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Maiduguri.

Mr Abba said the money was for the first and second quarters of 2024. It aims to support healthcare services for 119,418 beneficiaries through the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF).

He explained that N396.4 million was disbursed as capitation payments to PHC facilities. Also, N7.7 million was paid to secondary health facilities under the fee-for-service part of the programme.

"These disbursements are N396.4 million as capitation for the primary healthcare facilities and N7.7 million as fee-for-service payments of secondary health facilities for the first and second quarters of 2024," he stated.

The BHCPF was set up by the National Health Act of 2014. This government initiative aims to improve healthcare access for vulnerable groups in Nigeria.

Mr Abba mentioned that the fund is a joint effort between the federal and state governments. The states contribute 25 percent of the total funding.

He said the fund aims to tackle the long-standing issue of limited healthcare access for marginalized people.

The initiative covers 24 local government areas in the state. It shows Governor Babagana Zulum's commitment to better healthcare access and fairness in the region.

"BOSCHMA is dedicated to improving public health through strategic initiatives, partnerships, and effective healthcare delivery systems," he said.

"BOSCHMA focuses on improving maternal and child health and enhancing the well-being of the citizens by ensuring access to quality healthcare services across Borno."
