The Borno State Contributory Health Care Management Agency (BOSCHMA) has given out over N400 million to 171 primary healthcare centres and nine secondary health facilities. This money helps provide free treatment for vulnerable people across the state.
Saleh Abba, the Executive Secretary of BOSCHMA, shared this news in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Maiduguri.
Mr Abba explained that the money was for the first and second quarters of 2024. It aims to support healthcare services for 119,418 beneficiaries under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF).
He noted that N396.4 million was paid as capitation to primary healthcare facilities, while N7.7 million was given to secondary health facilities through a fee-for-service system.
"These disbursements are N396.4 million as capitation for the primary healthcare facilities and N7.7 million as fee-for-service payments of secondary health facilities for the first and second quarters of 2024," he said.
The BHCPF was set up by the National Health Act of 2014. This government initiative aims to improve healthcare access for vulnerable groups in Nigeria.
Mr Abba mentioned that the fund is a joint effort between the federal and state governments. The states contribute 25 percent of the total funding.
He said the fund tries to tackle the long-standing issue of limited healthcare access for marginalized people. The initiative covers 24 local government areas in the state.
Mr Abba highlighted that this shows Governor Babagana Zulum's commitment to better healthcare access and fairness across the region.
"BOSCHMA is dedicated to improving public health through strategic initiatives, partnerships, and effective healthcare delivery systems," he said.
"BOSCHMA focuses on improving maternal and child health and enhancing the wellbeing of citizens by ensuring access to quality healthcare services across Borno."
