The police in Cross River State have arrested a 16-year-old boy for allegedly stabbing a 20-year-old man named Uwem Daniel Akpan to death. This happened in the Akamkpa Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, shared this information in a statement to journalists in Calabar on Tuesday.
The incident took place around 7:30pm on Sunday, August 31, 2026. It started from a misunderstanding at Peters Street in the Awi community of Akamkpa LGA.
After the stabbing, the victim was taken to the Naval Reference Hospital in Calabar, where he was pronounced dead. His family later collected his remains.
The statement said, “The Cross River State Police Command has commenced investigation into the death of a 20-year-old male, Uwem Daniel Akpan, who was allegedly stabbed during a misunderstanding at Peters Street, Awi, Cross River, on 31 August 2026.
A 16-year-old male suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in police custody. The Command is looking into what happened and the suspect's role in it.”
The police are preparing to transfer the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Calabar for further investigation and appropriate legal action.
Eitokpah urged the public to stay calm and not take the law into their own hands. He assured them that the police would investigate the matter thoroughly.
He added, “Further information will be provided as the investigation progresses and relevant facts are established.”
