The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed that 18-year-old Abdullahi Aminu drowned after falling into a pond at Kofar Gabas in Danbatta Local Government Area of Kano State.
Sani Anas, the Director of the Kano State Fire Service, shared this information in a statement from the service’s Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdullahi, on Wednesday in Kano.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the incident took place on Tuesday afternoon.
The statement mentioned that the Danbatta Fire Station received a distress call at about 3:28 p.m. from Aminu Lawan, the victim’s father, who said his son had drowned in the pond.
"Upon receiving the report, we immediately deployed our rescue team to the scene," he said in the statement.
He added that the victim was brought out of the pond dead.
The public relations officer noted that the cause of the incident is still under investigation.
He mentioned that the victim’s body was later handed over to the Secretary to the District Head of Danbatta, Alhaji Baba Ado Sarkin Bai.
Abdullahi expressed his sympathy to the family of the deceased and urged residents to be careful around ponds and waterways, especially during the rainy season.
