Three African countries have made it to the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This shows a solid performance for Africa in the bigger tournament.

Out of the 10 teams from the continent, Morocco, South Africa, and Côte d’Ivoire have confirmed their spots in the knockout stage.

As of Friday, June 26, Egypt, Ghana, Cabo Verde, Algeria, Senegal, and Congo DR are still fighting for qualification ahead of their last group matches.

Morocco came second in Group C after beating Haiti 4-2. They will face Group F winners the Netherlands in the Round of 32 on June 29.

South Africa made history by reaching the World Cup knockout stage for the first time. They bounced back from their opening loss to co-hosts Mexico.

Bafana Bafana drew with Czechia and then won against Korea Republic. They finished second in Group A and will meet Canada on June 28.

Côte d’Ivoire also moved on after finishing second in Group E. They won against Ecuador and Curaçao.

The Elephants will take on the runners-up from Group I in the Round of 32 on June 30.

Among the other African teams, Egypt is at the top of Group G with four points from two matches. Ghana is second in Group L, tied on four points with England but behind on goal difference.

Cabo Verde is third in Group H with two points, equal with Uruguay but trailing on goal difference. Algeria is third in Group J with three points, the same as Austria.

Senegal and Congo DR have been eliminated from automatic qualification. But they still have chances based on the final group results and the ranking system for the best third-placed teams.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is the first to have 48 teams and a Round of 32. The top two teams from each of the 12 groups and the eight best third-placed teams will move on to the knockout stage.
