Three members of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, who have been lawmakers in the state assembly, have quit the party.

The lawmakers are Lekan Oyediran, Aleem Bakare, and Folorunso Oladoyin. They announced their resignation through letters sent to the local government chairmen of the party.

These resignations happened between June 1 and June 2. Bakare said he left because of lack of internal democracy. The other two did not give reasons for their resignations in their letters.

According to checks by The PUNCH, Oyediran represented Odo Otin State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly from 1999 to 2003. Aleem Bakare served as a member for Ejigbo State Constituency from 2003 to 2007.

Folorunso Oladoyin was in the Assembly for Ife South State Constituency from 2011 to 2019. He later became the State Commissioner for Education under ex-governor Adegboyega Oyetola until the government ended on November 26, 2022.

Bakare also worked in Oyetola's administration as the Special Adviser to the governor on Land Matters.

All three ex-lawmakers are connected to the former National Secretary of the party, Senator Iyiola Omisore. He has kept away from the party since the governorship primary in December 2025.

Jamiu Olawumi, the spokesperson for the Senator Iyiola Omisore Campaign Organisation, told The PUNCH that the three former lawmakers were close to Omisore. He also said Omisore did not tell them to leave APC. Olawumi said they probably made the decision after thinking about their political future.

In response, Kola Olabisi, the Osun APC spokesperson, said the party is not worried. He pointed out that those who left were just exercising their right to choose.

Olabisi mentioned that Osun APC has welcomed many important figures from the Peoples Democratic Party, more than the number of people that left. He urged members to stay focused and work harder for future elections.

He added, "In a democracy, people can join or leave politics freely. Everyone has the right to decide. If people are worried about these three lawmakers, can you compare them to two senators, Fadahunsi and Ajagunla and three representatives who joined our party with the trustee member of the PDP, Shuaib Oyedokun?

"What about Prince Dotun Babayemi, Kayode Oduoye, and many others? We are not worried at all. They are just exercising their freedom of choice. We cannot stop them."
