A final-year student from the Federal University Lokoja, Sarah Idoko, was found dead along the Lokoja-Abuja Highway in Kogi State. Police have started investigating the circumstances of her death.
Idoko was discovered on Saturday night near the Crusher area along the Felele axis of Lokoja. Reports say she was dumped there by unknown attackers.
Eyewitnesses said they saw a vehicle stop briefly near the spot around 8pm before it quickly drove away.
People passing by later found her body by the roadside and called in security officials.
At first, reports indicated that she was a student of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja. An identity card with her name was found at the scene.
The card showed she was enrolled in the Higher National Diploma program in the Department of Office Technology Management for the 2024/2025 academic session.
But the police later confirmed that Sarah was indeed a student at the Federal University Lokoja.
Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Naziru Kankarofi, confirmed the incident. He said investigations are ongoing to find out what happened and to catch those responsible.
"The command is working to establish the circumstances surrounding the death and track down those responsible," the police commissioner said.
He promised that the results of the investigation would be shared with the public at the right time. He also assured that the police are committed to bringing justice for the deceased.
In response to the news, the Association of Nigerian Female Students, Kogi State Chapter, condemned the killing. They described it as cruel, unfortunate, and unacceptable.
Celina James, the state coordinator, signed a statement expressing sorrow over Sarah's death. The association called on security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure that the culprits are caught.
They also urged the authorities to improve security around campuses and student communities to prevent similar incidents.
"The tragic death of Sarah Ojodomo has raised concerns about the safety and security of students and residents along the Felele corridor. This area is a major route to Lokoja and has seen several security issues in recent years," the association stated.
