Tinubu calls for global unity to fight security threats

Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, has urged for stronger local and global teamwork to tackle new security threats facing Nigeria and the world.

Mr Tinubu made this call in Abuja during a two-day international security conference. The event was organized by Jama’atu Izalatil Bidiah wa Iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS Nigeria) in partnership with the Muslim World League from Saudi Arabia.

The President, represented by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, stated that Nigeria is facing serious security challenges that need combined and lasting solutions.

He mentioned that the conference is crucial due to the current security issues and the need for leaders and faith groups to discuss new threats to both national and digital security systems.

The president said his government is focused on ensuring a stable and secure Nigeria while cooperating with other nations and global organizations to enhance world security.

“Working within the Committee of Nations, [my government is] collaborating every day to ensure that security remains not only in our country but in the entire globe,” he stated.

He added that the conference would look into new trends affecting Nigeria’s national and digital security and find ways to support the government’s efforts in tackling security issues.

Mr Tinubu also stressed the importance of Nigeria’s unity despite its diverse population. He encouraged Nigerians to join hands to keep the country united.

Participants at the conference will have a chance to share experiences and discuss practical and sustainable solutions for security challenges.

He praised the Muslim World League for selecting Nigeria as the conference location, calling the decision significant and assuring that the President was happy with the event.

He believes the discussions will lead to important and practical results that can help achieve the government’s security goals.

Reports indicate that this conference occurs at a time when extremists in Nigeria and the Sahel region are exploiting religious and ethnic tensions. Military governments are struggling with rebels and jihadists in these areas.

In Nigeria, the security situation has worsened under President Tinubu. Insurgency is now reaching the south, where Boko Haram terrorists abducted schoolchildren and killed their teacher in May.

While the government claims some successes on the frontlines, terrorists are regrouping and strengthening their hold in rural areas, where governance is weak. These areas are vital for recruiting new members for terror groups that mix religious beliefs with criminal activities.
