President Bola Tinubu has shared his sadness over the passing of Mobolade Omonijo, a well-respected journalist, political analyst, editor, and clergyman.
President Tinubu sent his condolences to Omonijo’s family, the media community, especially The Nation newspaper, and the Church of God.
The president called the late Omonijo “a journalist of immense value whose contributions to the profession and the nation would be remembered for years to come.”
“He distinguished himself in the various assignments entrusted to him throughout nearly four decades of meritorious service in journalism, earning a reputation for incisive analysis, professional integrity and a deep understanding of Nigeria’s political landscape.”
Until he passed away, Mr Omonijo, a reverend, was part of The Nation’s Editorial Board. He wrote many important commentaries on national issues.
He also worked as the political editor of The Nation and The Vanguard newspapers, and he had experience with The Economist, showing his commitment to political and public matters.
Beyond journalism, Mr Omonijo dedicated himself to Christian ministry. He served as the Vicar of the Church of Pentecost in Dopemu, which is part of the Diocese of Lagos West.
The president prayed for the soul of the departed to rest in peace and for comfort for his family.
