Tinubu urges new military officers to serve Nigeria with integrity

President Bola Tinubu has urged newly commissioned military officers to uphold the Constitution. He asked them to protect Nigerians and stay committed to discipline, honour, and selfless service.

Tinubu, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, spoke on Saturday through the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr Tajudeen Abbas. He represented Tinubu at the Combined Passing Out Parade of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna.

The event celebrated the commissioning of cadets from the 73 Regular Course, Short Service Course 49 (Army), Direct Short Service Course 34 (Air Force), and Branch Commission Course 3 (Air Force).

While addressing the new officers, Tinubu said their training has prepared them for the responsibilities that come with serving in the Armed Forces.

“The Nation is counting on you,” the president told the officers. He urged them to show discipline, professionalism, courage, and integrity in their duties.

Tinubu praised the NDA for adapting its training programs to meet the demands of modern warfare. He pointed out the Academy’s focus on counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency training, technological innovation, and international partnerships.

He also noted the NDA's growing recognition in the global military community. The president encouraged the institution to keep striving for excellence. He wants them to continue producing officers ready to face emerging security challenges.

Tinubu reminded the newly commissioned officers of their constitutional duties. He stressed the importance of safeguarding the nation and protecting its citizens while upholding the professional standards of the Armed Forces.

The ceremony had many notable attendees. These included the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, the Minister of Defence, the Minister of State for Defence, and the Chief of Defence Staff.

Also present were senior government and military officials, along with Presidents and Coordinators of various Officers’ Wives Associations.

This commissioning marks a new phase of service for the officers. They are expected to carry on the traditions of the Nigerian Armed Forces while serving the country with courage, integrity, and distinction.
