Goalkeepers are becoming more important in football today. Clubs are now ready to pay high transfer fees for keepers who can perform well in goal and handle the ball effectively.
Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga is still the most expensive goalkeeper in the world. He moved from Athletic Bilbao to Chelsea for £71.6 million in 2018. But Kepa has not always lived up to his big price tag during his time at Stamford Bridge.
Liverpool’s Alisson Becker comes in second place. He transferred from Roma to Liverpool for £67 million in 2018. The Brazilian has proved to be one of the club’s best signings. He helped Liverpool win the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, and other big trophies.
Manchester United’s Andre Onana is third after his move from Inter Milan in 2023 for £43.9 million. Paris Saint-Germain’s Lucas Chevalier is fourth. He joined the French club from Lille for £36.4 million in 2025.
Thibaut Courtois rounds out the top five. He moved from Chelsea to Real Madrid, where he has become one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
Manchester City’s Ederson is sixth on the list. The Brazilian has played an important part in the club’s success in both local and European competitions since joining from Benfica.
Italian legend Gianluigi Buffon is seventh. His transfer from Parma to Juventus for £32.6 million in 2001 was a world record for a goalkeeper at that time and stood for 17 years.
Former Barcelona keeper Jasper Cillessen is eighth after his move to Valencia. Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale and Everton’s Jordan Pickford are also in the top 10 following their own £30 million transfers.
