Trabzonspor has rejected a bid of about €30m from Crystal Palace for Super Eagles defender Chibuike Nwaiwu. This news comes from Haber61 as the Turkish Cup winners want to keep the 23-year-old player amid interest from several European clubs.
The Black Sea club is sticking to their price of €35m for Nwaiwu. He joined from Wolfsberger AC in January and has quickly become a key player in Trabzonspor’s defense.
Nwaiwu finished his first half-season in Turkey with a trophy. Trabzonspor beat Konyaspor 2-1 in the Turkish Cup final. He is under contract with the club until June 30, 2030.
His standout performances include three headed goals in 16 league matches during the second half of last season. These displays have caught the attention of many clubs.
Crystal Palace's need for new defenders grew stronger after they lost French defender Maxence Lacroix to Chelsea this summer. Earlier this year, they also saw Marc Guehi leave for Manchester City.
Trabzonspor is keen on holding onto Nwaiwu as they aim for the Super Lig title next season. They will only think about letting him go if they get an offer too good to turn down before the transfer window closes.
Fulham, another London club, is also interested in the defender. They are said to have already agreed on personal terms with him. They are working to reach a deal with Trabzonspor over the transfer fee.
