Motorists were stuck in traffic on Tuesday night along Lateef Jakande Road, Omole Phase 1, Isheri and Ojodu Berger area. This gridlock lasted more than three hours after it started.
The traffic began around 6:30 p.m. and was still heavy by 10:19 p.m. Cars were moving slowly in many parts of the road.
A PREMIUM TIMES reporter walked from Omole Phase 1 towards Berger and saw long lines of vehicles on the road.
At Isheri, the traffic was especially bad, with many workers and business owners trying to get home caught in the jam.
The reason for the traffic was not clear at the time of this report.
Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) had not provided any explanation on its X account by 10:19 p.m.
No LASTMA officials were seen in some of the affected areas during the reporter’s walk from Omole Phase 1 to Berger.
Traffic was also heavy on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. A 40-foot container truck crashed at the exit of Kara Bridge on Tuesday.
LASTMA reported that the truck had brake failure and hit the road demarcation blocks and other vehicles.
The agency said its officials and police were sent to the scene to manage traffic and clear the wrecked vehicles.
The crash occurred while repairs were ongoing on Kara Bridge.
The federal government started a two-week repair on damaged expansion joints on the bridge on 8 September. This work is set to finish on 22 September.
Richard Adeleye, the Acting Controller of the Federal Ministry of Works in Ogun State, said the repairs were needed because the expansion joints were old and could be dangerous for drivers.
Mr Adeleye mentioned that the work is being done in phases to lessen traffic disruption.
"There will be traffic control here from the 8th of this month, which will last for two weeks, precisely because of the curing that is expected before it is opened to traffic," he said during an inspection of the area.
The repairs have caused traffic restrictions around Kara Bridge and nearby parts of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
LASTMA also reported another crash on Tuesday involving a loaded trailer and a Sports Utility Vehicle on the bridge heading to Mowe.
The agency advised drivers using the route to be careful and follow the instructions of traffic officials.
