Troops from Sector 2, Joint Task Force, North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have successfully fought off an attack by suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group. This happened at the Forward Operating Base in Maiyama Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The attack took place in the early hours of Wednesday, October 7, 2026. The terrorists, reportedly many in number and riding over 100 motorcycles, stormed the military base with various weapons.

They came armed with General Purpose Machine Guns and Rocket-Propelled Grenades. But the troops reacted quickly and effectively, forcing the attackers to retreat.

On Thursday, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force, released a statement. He said the terrorists left behind weapons, equipment, and other supplies while escaping the area.

Danja stated, “The troops responded swiftly and effectively, repelling the attack and preventing the terrorists from achieving their objective.” He mentioned that the troops also carried out follow-up operations in the area, which led to finding 17 motorcycles, a PKT machine gun, an AK-47 rifle, different types of ammunition, and a communication device.

He noted that these recoveries were a big blow to the terrorist group’s ability to operate in the area. “The recovery of the weapons, ammunition, communication equipment and motorcycles represents a significant setback to the terrorists’ operational capability in the area,” he said.

The military spokesperson assured that the area remained firmly under the control of the troops. He added that aggressive patrols, clearance, and operations were ongoing to track down and neutralize any fleeing members of the group.

He emphasized that Operation FANSAN YAMMA was dedicated to protecting communities and ensuring that terrorists do not have the freedom to operate within the Joint Operations Area.
