US President Donald Trump will be at the World Cup final in New Jersey on July 19. He will present the trophy to the winners, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said on Tuesday.
"We will be together with the president enjoying the final and handing the trophy to the winner, of course, together," Infantino told Fox and Friends.
Infantino has built a close bond with Trump. He gave Trump a new FIFA peace prize at the World Cup draw in Washington last year.
The choice to present the trophy together comes after the fuss over the Club World Cup presentation. This took place in New Jersey last year when Chelsea beat Paris Saint-Germain.
Trump gave the trophy to Chelsea captain Reece James. But he did not leave the stage right away. He ended up joining the team’s celebrations, which surprised the players.
