The Turkish Football Federation's disciplinary committee has banned 147 club officials for 45 days. They violated betting rules after an investigation into gambling in Turkish football.
The Professional Football Disciplinary Board announced the penalties on Tuesday. They reviewed the cases of 448 officials sent by the federation due to claims that they placed bets while working at clubs, Reuters reported.
"The committee found that 147 out of 448 individuals had violated betting rules and imposed 45-day penalties, which bar football officials from carrying out duties within the sport during the suspension period," Reuters reported.
Among those banned is Ertugrul Dogan, president of Trabzonspor, a club in the Turkish Super Lig, according to the committee’s decision.
The board cleared the other officials. Reuters stated, "the board imposed no penalties in the other 301 cases after finding insufficient grounds for disciplinary action."
In September, the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) had announced a temporary suspension of 448 current and former officials. These officials had served at clubs in the country’s top two divisions over the last five years.
"The federation said at the time that those referred had been found to have placed bets while holding club positions," the outlet reported.
These new bans are part of the federation's efforts to improve controls over betting in Turkish football.
"The TFF has tightened its oversight of betting since a scandal rocked Turkish soccer," the agency reported.
