The Kano State Police have arrested two people after a shooting at a wedding left one person dead and three others injured. The shooting happened at Tudun Yola Quarters in Kano metropolis during a recent wedding.

CSP Abdullahi Haruna, the Public Relations Officer for the Command, confirmed the arrests in a WhatsApp message to PUNCH Metro on Tuesday.

On Sunday, 16th August 2026, panic broke out when Rabi’u Mukthar, 34, fired shots during the wedding ceremony. This tragic incident resulted in one death and injuries to three guests.

“Yes, two suspects were arrested during the incident on Sunday, 16th August 2026. A pump-action rifle was also recovered. We are still investigating the case,” Haruna stated.

The suspect reportedly stepped out of his house while music was playing at the wedding and began shooting at the guests. Haruna explained, “The man, Rabiu Mukthar of Tudun Yola Quarters, used a pump-action gun to shoot at the marriage celebration crowd.”

Haruna added, “As soon as the police heard about the shooting, they acted quickly. They arrested the man and one other person, and they seized the gun from him.”

During questioning, the suspect claimed that he and others were disturbed by the loud music from the wedding. He said he could not sleep, which led him to open fire on the guests.

“The suspect and one other person are in police custody. Investigations are ongoing to find out more about what happened,” he concluded.
