The Oyo State Police have arrested two suspects following the murder of a 26-year-old man named Kehinde Asimiyu. This happened during a fight in the Olodo area of Ibadan.

The police said the incident took place at Olodo Garage. One suspect, Taiwo Babarinde, allegedly stabbed Asimiyu with a broken bottle.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, mentioned that police got a report about the incident on November 1, 2026.

The statement said, "The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of a 26-year-old man, identified as Kehinde Asimiyu, following a fatal altercation in the Olodo area of Ibadan."

"According to the report received by the police, on 1st November 2026, the deceased was allegedly stabbed with a broken bottle by one Taiwo Babarinde at Olodo Garage following an altercation between both parties."

The family of the victim found out about the attack when a motorcycle rider came to their house to inform them.

Police officers quickly went to the scene, and the victim was taken to Academy Hospital, Texaco, Iwo Road, Ibadan. Sadly, a doctor confirmed Asimiyu was dead when he arrived.

His body was later taken to Adejare Embalming Centre for preservation. Photographs were also taken as part of the investigation.

The police identified the two suspects as Babarinde, who is thought to have caused the fatal injury, and Ishola Semiu, who was also involved in the incident.

"In the course of the police intervention and subsequent investigation, two suspects were arrested. They are Taiwo Babarinde, suspected to have inflicted the fatal injury on the deceased, and Ishola Semiu, suspected of involvement in the incident," the statement added.

Both suspects are now in police custody. The case has been sent to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Iyaganku, Ibadan, for further examination.

The police also said the incident caused unrest at the Olodo Police Outpost, raising fears of a possible breakdown of law and order.

Reports of threats from hoodlums led to more security personnel being sent to the area.

"However, following the incident, unrest erupted at Olodo Police Outpost, nearly resulting in a breakdown of law and order. Subsequent reports of threats by hoodlums further necessitated an immediate reinforcement of security in the area. Consequently, the Command deployed additional operational assets, supported by personnel of the Nigerian Army, Amotekun Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other local law enforcement components."

This coordinated effort has helped restore calm, with a strong police presence to prevent further issues and protect residents.

While maintaining security, the Commissioner of Police instructed the Area Commander in Moniya to work with community leaders to address the situation and stop it from happening again.

Acting on this, the Area Commander held a meeting with representatives of the Local Council Development Area (LCDA), leaders of tricycle and motorcycle operators, and youth leaders. They talked about finding practical solutions, improving communication with security agencies, and promoting peace among residents.

The police assured residents of Olodo and nearby areas that strong security measures are in place to protect lives and property. They warned anyone trying to cause trouble or violence that such actions will not be accepted.

The police will take strong action against anyone threatening public peace or security in Oyo State," the statement said.

The Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Olugbenga, urged residents to stay calm, avoid violence, and talk things over to solve disagreements.
