The Oyo State Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the kidnapping of a 38-year-old man, Nathaniel Peter. This incident took place in Layeri Village, near Ikoyi-Ile, in Oriire Local Government Area.
The police said these arrests have helped them get closer to finding other members of the gang involved in the kidnapping.
The suspects are Muhammadu Abubakar and 17-year-old Jayun Danali.
Olayinka Ayanlade, the state Police Public Relations Officer, shared this information in a statement on Sunday in Ibadan. He mentioned that the suspects are helping investigators with details about the case.
Ayanlade reported that three armed men attacked a family compound around 4:20 AM on September 24. They broke into Peter’s room and took him away.
The kidnappers ran away through the National Reserve Forest with Peter’s Hajue motorcycle and his mobile phone.
Ayanlade stated that a resident of the community informed the police around 5:50 PM the same day, which led officers to the scene to start their investigation.
The police made these arrests as part of their efforts to understand what happened during the kidnapping and to ensure Peter is rescued safely.
The statement said, "The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the kidnapping of a 38-year-old man, Nathaniel Peter, at Layeri Village, via Ikoyi-Ile, Oyo State. This followed a quick response to a report received about the incident."
"Initial findings showed that three armed men broke into Nathaniel Peter’s room and kidnapped him from the house."
"The assailants then escaped through the National Reserve Forest, taking a Hajue motorcycle and the victim’s mobile phone with them."
In the ongoing investigation, the police arrested two suspects: Muhammadu Abubakar, an adult male, and Jayun Danali, a 17-year-old male. Both are currently assisting the police with important information for the investigation.
Ayanlade mentioned that the arrests have given them important leads to identify and catch other people involved in the crime.
He added that the police are working closely with other security agencies to carry out coordinated operations. Their goal is to rescue Peter and catch the gang members who have escaped.
The police spokesman encouraged residents of the affected areas to stay alert and share any useful information that can help the security agencies with their work.
He assured the community that the police are committed to protecting lives and property and keeping peace throughout the state.
